GREECE - Newest country to buy Doctor Who! http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/bbcworldwide/worldwidestories/pressreleases/2006/02_february/skai.shtml http://www.c21media.net/news/detail.asp?area=1&article=29105

The BBC and C21Media reported on 28 February that Doctor Who and hundreds of hours of BBC programming have been sold to the new Greek TV channel SKAI, which will begin over the air broadcasts on 1 April 2006. From the BBC article:

"BBC Worldwide announced today at BBC Showcase that it has concluded a two-year agreement with SKAI, the new Greek terrestrial television channel launching on 1 April 2006, to televise over 500 hours of drama, factual and news and current affairs programming.

"The titles range from dramas such as Spooks and Doctor Who to documentaries, including Seven Wonders of the Industrial World, Space Odyssey - Voyage to the Planets and three history titles looking at the Ancient Wonders of Jerusalem, Greece and the Holy Land."

Here's hoping that the launch of the SKAI channel is a success and that Greece will come to enjoy Doctor Who in the near future.
HUNGARY - A slight correction on the information regarding last
week's premiere in Hungary on Cool TV. Doctor Who's Hungarian name
of Ki Vagy, Doki? translates better as "Who Are You, Doctor?"
Evidently RTLKlub was the original buyer of Doctor Who in Hungary,
and somehow the broadcast rights migrated to Cool TV in the
intervening months. No information has reached the English speaking
world yet on whether Doctor Who had decent ratings with its premiere.
USA - SciFi http://www.scifi.com is beginning to advertise the upcoming stateside launch of Doctor Who. Text notices about the premiere were spotted during the Tuesday February 21 broadcast of Passions on Sci-Fi (episode 7, Timmy goes on sale in a fair and Tabitha dresses up as a fortune teller, if you're a longtime Passions viewer). A 15 second ad focusing on the mystery of the character started airing on Wednesday February 22. This ad did not mention the series by name but had a fair number of clips - it is also on the SciFi website. On Friday February 24 the Doctor Who mini-site http://www.scifi.com/doctorwho went live. It is heavily flash intensive, so it loads slowly on some machines. It has a lot of Doctor Who information. Sci-Fi also redid their launch plans, deciding to have a 2 hour premiere for Doctor Who instead of the original 1 hour launch. It was unclear as of this writing if Sci-Fi will edit Rose and The End Of The World together like they did with the Battlestar Galactica and Stargate Atlantis series premieres (Battlestar Galactica was clearly 2 unrelated episodes that happened to be sequential) or if they will air as separate episodes. Thomas Vitale of the Sci-Fi Channel will be on Sci-Fi Overdrive http://www.scifioverdrive.com on the weekend of March 10 to discuss the launch of Doctor Who and other 2006 programming.
The new premiere plan:
All Times Eastern (adjust for local time and East Coast Feed vs.
West Coast Feed)
Friday March 17:
9PM Rose
10PM The End Of The World
11PM Rose
Midnight The End Of The World
Sunday March 19:
11PM Rose
Midnight The End Of The World
Friday March 24:
8PM The End Of The World (special repeat)
9PM The Unquiet Dead
Midnight The Unquiet Dead
Sunday March 26:
Midnight The Unquiet Dead (special time - Sunday movie runs long)
As of March 31, Doctor Who firmly settles into its regular time
slots. Fridays at 9PM and Midnight Eastern, Sundays at 11PM Eastern.
Yes, the Sunday time is a regular timeslot. So, if you are at work
on Friday night or otherwise unable to watch, you can catch the
Sunday edition. Since the episodes air twice on Friday, if your only
problem watching on Friday is that it'll conflict with other TV
shows you want to see (WWE Smackdown, Las Vegas, Close To Home,
Reba), just watch the broadcast that does not conflict with the show
you want to see. If you have DirecTV or Dish Network, you have the
East Coast version of SciFi no matter where you live in the US - so
9PM Eastern is 6PM Pacific, 11PM Eastern is 8PM Pacific, and
Midnight is 9PM Pacific - could be relevant in avoiding schedule
conflicts with other channels/plans to go out.
A VCR or a DVR like Tivo also can help get around a schedule
conflict. If you have a Tivo (or DirecTivo) and have not disabled
its ability to record suggestions for you, it should be sending
anonymous information back about what shows are watched on it, how
close you watch it to live, and whether you fast forward through any
commercials. Some of these machines have 2 tuners, making it even
easier to see Doctor Who if another network schedules your second
favorite show against it (just have both tuners recording and watch
each show when you get time).
Just 16 days till the US launch. As someone in the US, I'm excited.
UK - We don't have a UK premiere date yet for series 2. It is
unlikely that the BBC has decided on a premiere date yet. But UKTV
Gold http://www.ukgold.tv seems to believe it will be in mid-April -
they have postponed their Doctor Who Weekend consisting of the 13
episodes from Series One from 18 & 19 March to 8 & 9 April.
Once the new Doctor Who episodes roll out this year, we should have
Doctor Who Friday - kids related Doctor Who tie-in program on BBC
One on Friday nights
Doctor Who - the main show, airing Saturdays at 7 on BBC One with a
couple of BBC Three repeats
Doctor Who Confidential - BBC Three half-hour show airing right
after the Doctor Who BBC One premiere will several repeats
There are rumours of Mobisodes (mini-episodes downloadable to
cellular/mobile phones such as Lost and 24 have done) as well. We'll
see if that happens.
Doctor Who finishes its run through Series One in Belgium on één and Israel on Yes Weekend this week. Yes Weekend ceases to exist on the 5th, being replaced by Yes Stars, which is expected to air repeats of Series 1 as well as Series 2 (assuming Yes buys Series 2).
The BBC Press Office http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice and C21 Media
http://www.c21media.net often announce when a Doctor Who
international sale occurs. Worth keeping an eye on, just in case.

Saturday 6-9:25AM GMT Inferno movie
Season 7, Episodes 19 through 25. Doctor: Jon Pertwee. The last 7 episode story, so the last time you both have to get up early and stay later than usual to see the full Doctor Who story - yes you can sleep in till 7AM if your programming package has UKTV Gold + 1. The 3rd Doctor uses a drilling project to provide energy to work on the TARDIS console. An accident sends him to an alternate Earth, where the project is just slightly further along, and spots evidence that it is going disastrously wrong. Includes the radio scene deleted from the original TV broadcast but included in most repeats - it will be a deleted scene on the DVD release. I wonder if the Doctor considered that maybe it was the interference of the TARDIS that was causing the drilling disaster on both Earths in the first place. It would have been worth checking.
Sunday 7-8:50AM GMT Terror of the Autons movie
Season 8, Episodes 1 through 4. Doctor: Jon Pertwee. Colour-restored version from the early 1990s. Roger Delgado joins the series as The Master. Richard Franklin joins as Captain Mike Yates. Katy Manning joins as Jo Grant. The Autons try to rejoin the show, but the Doctor and U*N*I*T decide to fight them off again. Guess there's only room for so many regulars at one time. Sorry, plastic pals. Try again in 34 years.

The peasants are agitating against the royalty. The royalty doesn't understand the peasants. And an image of Aggedor is flying around killing people. One of the Doctor's allies is forced to take decisive action to save the day - sadly, it's the wrong action and it could get them all killed.
